Closure of the Charity Commission’s Case into the ABF

We are very pleased that in May 2024 the Charity Commission concluded and closed the regulatory compliance case into the Actors’ Benevolent Fund. The Commission is fully satisfied that all matters raised have been dealt with by the ABF and that the new Board elected in January is focused on prioritising the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries. They are further satisfied that the results of the election held at the January 2024 AGM are valid and demonstrate the will of the wider membership.

The Commission is clear that they expect the new Board to focus its energies on delivering the charity’s important purpose. Further, they are assured that the new Board is committed to working together to deliver on the ABF’s important charitable purposes, to draw a line under previous difficulties in order to concentrate fully on fulfilling the charity’s objectives, and is focused on prioritising the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries. The Commission is satisfied that there is no further regulatory role for it and therefore the case has been concluded.

This is a hugely positive step forward for the charity, along with recent confirmation of the King being our Patron, all of which signifies a new chapter for the ABF, and is the result of a great deal of work carried out over the past two years to improve the charity’s governance.
