President of the Actors' Benevolent Fund:
Legacies have been one of the ABF’s main sources of income ever since it was
founded over 120 years ago. Put quite simply if other actors and people who love
the theatre had not left money to the Fund over the years we would not be able
to work in the way that we do now.
The Fund provides beneficiaries with regular allowances, grants for holidays,
help with the costs of items like wheelchairs, motorised scooters and general
household equipment such as cookers and fridges, and also assists with the costs
of long-term residential care.
The income we receive from legacies is crucial to the support that we are able
to offer those beneficiaries we are looking after today. It is also vital for
those who will need our assistance in the coming years. We have been looking
after actors for nearly 120 years and we hope the Fund will be here for the next
100 years to care for those who need our help.
